SANBI OYSTEROyster Claire

From one stretch of sea, in one month of the year.

Powdered,
never extracted.

Oysters raised where streams from Miyajima’s old-growth forest meet the sea, kept whole and milled to powder rather than reduced to an extract. Blended with galacto-oligosaccharide, heat-treated HJ1 lactic acid bacteria and vitamins, and finished in Japan at a GMP-certified facility.

The luxury of
not extracting.

搾らない、という贅沢

01 — Process

Whole oyster, not an extract.

Many oyster supplements are built on an extract: the oyster is simmered and its soluble fraction drawn off. SANBI OYSTER CLAIRE is made by a process that keeps the drip in, milling the oyster itself into powder.

You can check this on the pack. The first item in the ingredient list is oyster powder, not oyster extract.

Western waters of Hiroshima — between Miyajima and Hatsukaichi

February into March.
One month, when the oysters are full.

02 — Origin

Nothing bought in.

The raw material is SANBI OYSTER, farmed by Teranishiya itself in the water between the World Heritage island of Miyajima and the city of Hatsukaichi, fed by streams running out of Miyajima’s old-growth forest.

From spat collection through farming, processing and shipping, the work is done in-house by growers with more than fifty years at it. The harvest is taken between February and March, when the oysters are full and have not yet spawned, and graded by hand. No oysters are bought in from elsewhere.

What remains, after every stage of selection.

Harvested between February and March, when the oysters are full and have not yet spawned, then graded by hand against the house standard. When every stage is done, about two per cent of the catch remains.

On the word Sanbi

Not the praise we give ourselves — the praise of the people who taste it. That is the oyster we want to make.

Tomokazu Teranishi, President, Teranishiya Co., Ltd.

Sanbi means to praise what is excellent in another. Only through the daily work of grading, quality and hygiene, done patiently, does a mouthful worth praising come about. The name SANBI OYSTER was chosen with that in mind.

07 — Questions

Answered before you ask.

What is the difference between an extract and a powder?

An extract is the soluble fraction drawn off by simmering the oyster. This product is not extracted; the oyster itself is milled into powder. You can tell them apart by whether the label reads “oyster extract” or “oyster powder”.

Where do the oysters come from?

The western coastal waters of Hiroshima, Japan. The ingredient list on the pack names the sea area.

How much is taken per day?

Four tablets, 1,000 mg in total, with water. One pouch holds 120 tablets, thirty days at that rate.

Are the lactic acid bacteria live?

No. They are included as heat-treated, non-viable cells, as stated in the ingredient list.

Is there an allergen declaration?

Yes. The product contains oyster, a mollusc.

Can it be exported to my market?

Permitted ingredients and labelling rules differ by country, and the current pack carries the Japanese domestic label. Tell us the destination and we will go through the requirements with you.
